The Plant Operations Department of Facilities operates, maintains, and repairs the buildings and utility systems of the University and provide electrical power, water and sewer services. Under the leadership of the General Trades Service Manager, the shops are responsible for preventative maintenance according to their expertise and keep all operating systems in good repair; make the campus a comfortable, safe, and attractive place to learn, live, work, and recreate; respond quickly to the emergency maintenance and repair needs of the campus community.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Ensuring all building finishes and architecture is well maintained and services are provided in a manner which reflects the excellence of the University.
Directing the maintenance and operations of Carpentry, Paint, Locksmiths, Moving Services, and Central Store Shops to support the needs of staff and infrastructure across over 100 campus buildings and structures.
Managing a construction unit, a small group of maintenance trade staff, to take on special projects and deferred maintenance.
Overseeing five forepersons and their direct report mechanics.
Managing budget including operating, personnel, OT, and projects.
Implementing and directing programs to ensure effective and efficient operation of shops and promote steady incremental improvement.
Coordinating and managing contracts and contractors.
Immediately responding to all emergencies during both normal and off duty hours to ensure safe and timely operations to cover all University commitments.
Ensuring positive customer service approach.
This position is considered essential personnel and serves as a rotational on-call manager.
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university in Engineering or Architecture, OR Physical Science
Equivalent of 10 plus years of facilities, construction, and personnel management experience and an obtained license in a construction trade.
Major course work in engineering, architecture, or physical science.
Maintenance and Operations work oversight, coordinating, or facilitating work necessary to maintain or upgrade facilities and infrastructure of various types while operating at the budget provided.
Experience supervising a unionized workforce.
The salary range is $66,358 – $75,837. Excellent benefits package including undergraduate tuition fee waiver for self and dependents.
